Eligibility:

  • Anyone touched by the effects of alcohol/drug/smoking abuse; mental illness; and other emotional and victimizing abuses.

  • Anyone who wants to know more about addictions and mental illness.

  • Anyone who thinks they might have a problem but not sure.

  • Anyone who wants to reach out for supports to intervene on their own  potentially  downward spiral.
PREVENTION / INTERVENTION

Programs and services that serve as the key to saving lives, families, health, jobs – the community.

MATERNAL INTERVENTION AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES –
This program provides community based supportive services to young women with children who recognize the need for supports in the very difficult task of raising children alone.  These young women would prefer to learn how to be successful without using alcohol and/or drugs.

PREGNANT AND PARENTING TEENS –
This program is geared to pregnant teens and teens with young babies.  If you are pregnant or carrying for a young baby on your own and want help – reach out to Berks Counseling Center.

SERVICES AT BERKS COUNTY PRISON-
Berks Counseling Center provides a comprehensive substance abuse intervention and treatment program at the Berks County Prison. This includes screenings, level of care assessments, psychoeducation, formal outpatient treatment, and Early Recovery Support Groups. BCC also provides aftercare and Early Recovery Support for forensic populations at our main office -- affording inmates a smooth transition to community based care upon release.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE SERVICES-
Several Berks Counseling Center staff has completed state approved student assistance training and have experience providing both elementary and secondary student assistance services. BCC currently holds the contract to provide students assistance at Reading High School. This includes assessment, SAP meetings, coordination, referral, support groups and community outreach to students and their families. At the high school, BCC developed one of the first student assistance programs that operates year round designed to support students enrolled in the program through the summer months. Student assistance services are available in English and in Spanish

HIV AND HEP C –
“An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of the cure” How true for these afflictions. Learn how to “be safe” and prevent the transmission of HIV and HEP C.

Prevention and Intervention include:

  • Education and open discussion on the dangers and risks of alcohol and drug abuse as well as smoking provide consumers with the tools to make good decisions.

  • Education and open discussion on the symptoms and debilitating effects of mental illness create a positive environment where one can reach out for help.

  • Support, from family, friends and the community, provide the strength and courage to intervene on the loved one who is making poor choices and/or fearful of asking for help.

  • Destigmatizing persons afflicted with mental illness and/or addictions by focusing on the recovery goal.

  • Honesty, Motivation and Reward.  Reaching the goal of being in charge of ones life for success.
