Vision
To maintain the highest quality of service while meeting the changing needs of the clients who seek our help.

Mission
Berks Counseling Center provides counseling, housing and supportive services to enable individuals and families to achieve a healthy and more productive life style.

Organization

Berks Counseling Center (BCC) is a freestanding private non-profit Behavioral Health Agency operating in Berks County since 1977. The organization is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Program Licensing, and the Department of Public Welfare, to provide a wide range of chemical dependency and mental health services. BCC is contracted with the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide transitional and permanent housing with supportive services for person with disabilities.

Services include outpatient individual, group and family counseling; psychiatric evaluations and medication management; case management and ancillary supportive services to residents of our transitional and permanent housing programs. In-home supportive services including case management are provided to high risk mothers with children. Parenting and other support groups are offered at convenient community sites on an as needed basis. BCC also facilitates a pregnant and parenting teen program and provides HIV medical case management for clients diagnosed with HIV.

Substance Abuse services are founded on the belief that addiction is a primary progressive illness, which can and does respond to treatment. We believe abstinence is critical to ongoing recovery and in the value and importance of 12-step involvement as an adjunct to recovery. We also believe strongly that those persons with both a substance abuse and concomitant mental health disorder need and deserve specialized care that addresses both those dysfunctions.

BCC serves the residents of Berks County regardless of ability to pay, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, race, color, social preferences, and cultural orientation.. The Agency is a network provider for Health Choices; Medicare and Medicaid approved; and accepts most third party insurance.

The main office site is located at 35 North 6th St. (2nd fl). A satellite site for treatment services is located at 430 North 2nd St. Reading, PA 19601. The Administrative offices are at 501 Washington St., Reading.

BCC is administered by an Executive Director under the governance of a volunteer Board of Directors. Staff includes a licensed psychiatrist, physician, licensed master level therapists; certified chemical dependency counselors; bilingual staff; registered nurses; case managers; and other support staff.

We believe that community enlightenment and family strength are key components to the prevention and reduction of drug abuse. Thus, BCC provides a diverse prevention program through the media, public relations activities, and in collaboration with other prevention efforts within the community. We also offer specialized prevention programming for pregnant and parenting teens and in-home case management, intervention and supportive services to parenting mothers.
